President Trump Cancels North Korea Summit

President Donald Trump is calling off the summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, which was slated to happen on June 12 in Singapore. In a letter to Kim Jong Un, Trump explained that his decision was based on recent statements from North Korea that were filled with "tremendous anger and open hostility." He said that meeting with Kim would be "inappropriate" at this time.

Trump explained that canceling the summit was "for the good of both parties, but to the detriment of the world."

The President wrote that the United States' nuclear arsenal is "so massive and powerful that I pray to God they will never have to be used." He then offered an olive branch to Kim, telling him that “if you change your mind having to do with this most important summit, please do not hesitate to call me or write."

Trump's decision comes after comments made by the Vice Minister of the North Korean Foreign Ministry Choe Son Hui on Thursday. He said that the whether the United States "will meet us at a meeting room or encounter us at nuclear-to-nuclear showdown is entirely dependent upon the decision and behavior of the United States."
