Woman Claims Officer Sexually Assaulted Her, Dash Cam Proves She Was Lying

A Texas woman claimed that she was sexually assaulted by a police officer during a traffic stop over the weekend. Sherita Dixon-Cole said that Officer Daniel Hubbard "suggested she could go home in exchange for sexual favors" after she failed a field sobriety test. When she refused, she was arrested and stated that she was "forcefully groped, fondled and vaginally penetrated during a prolonged arrest."

She retained a lawyer and planned to file a civil rights lawsuit. Her story went viral after activist Shaun King shared it on social media.

The Texas Department of Public Safety denied the allegations and released nearly two hours of body camera footage that prove Dixon-Cole's story was completely false.

"Upon learning of the allegations today, the department immediately took action to review the dash cam video. The video shows absolutely no evidence to support the serious accusations against the Trooper during the DWI arrest of the suspect," the department said in a statement.

After the footage was released, her lawyer, Lee Merritt, issued a statement apologizing on her behalf for making the false claims. He also apologized to Officer Hubbard and his family for any "trouble these claims may have caused."

“Officer Daniel Hubbard seems to comport himself professionally during the duration of the traffic stop and arrest and— without more— should be cleared of any wrongdoing,” he said in a statement.

“It is deeply troubling when innocent parties are falsely accused, and I am truly sorry for any trouble these claims may have caused Officer Hubbard and his family. I take full responsibility for amplifying these claims to the point of national concern.”

Ellis County District Attorney Patrick Wilson said that the false accusations resulted in a "very malicious public persecution," against Hubbard and his family.

Authorities indicated that Cole could face additional criminal charges for making a false report.
