Helicopter Crashes Into Hudson River Near West Side Of Manhattan

A helicopter attempting to land on the West Side of Manhattan came up short of the landing pad and ended up in the Hudson River Wednesday afternoon.

The pilot was reportedly able to land in the river near West 30th Street and the West Side Highway. He was reportedly the only person on board and exited the vehicle under his own power.

He was not injured, according to reports.

The FDNY and NYPD managed to secure the floating helicopter and drag it to the side of the heliport.

It was then tethered to the NYPD and FDNY boats as responders prepared to pull it from the water.

Coast Guard crews also responded to the scene.

The West Side Highway was closed southbound at 34th Street near Hudson Yards to accommodate emergency vehicles.
